Alternative Licenses

In addition to my standard font license, I also offer special non-profit, academic, and testing licenses upon request. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any inquiries.

For Non-Profits

If you are an individual or non-profit interested in using my typefaces for work that advances causes such as social justice, human rights, or environmental protection, I want to support you!

Send me information about your organization, what typeface you are interested in, and how you would like to use it. I am generally happy to offer a license for non-profit use that fits within your budget, and will consider taking on pro bono lettering work for you as well (both up to my discretion).

Fonts may not be able to save the world, but I’d love to see them help a little!

For Students

I strongly believe that typography is the most important aspect of the design process, so it only make sense that I would want to support students who want to actively gain experience licensing and using professional typefaces.

I understand that a student’s budget is not the same as that of a commercial studio, nor do I think it is fair to charge the same license fee for a student project that I would for a commercially-oriented use.

I am happy to offer a free academic license for most student projects, but here’s the catch: you have to email me to get it. I am a friendly font maker and you are a burgeoning font user, so what a great opportunity for us to connect!

I’ll want to know which styles you want, and also would love to hear where you go to school, what you’re studying, and what kind of project you’re working on. I’ll ask you not to share the fonts with anyone else, and I’ll be curious to see the results of your project when you are finished. And if you use the typeface anywhere outside of your coursework, I’ll ask you to come back to djr.com and purchase a full commercial license.

It might take me a day or two to get back to you, so I recommend that you do your type research in advance. And if you end up with a little extra cash at the end of the semester, you can think about purchasing a single style (or whatever fits your budget) to buy me a 🍺!

I am also happy to offer my fonts on on Fontstand, an app that issues free trials and inexpensive font rentals.

For Educators

For educators that would like to provide their students with a library of professional tools, I will happily offer my type library at a discounted rate for use at your institution. I also love to share my love of font making with others, and am available to give talks or lead workshops at your school or conference. Either way, feel free to get in touch!

For Testing Purposes

All purchases on djr.com allow you to terminate your license within 30 days of purchase. This is essentially my free trial program: if you try it and change your mind, let me know and I will refund your full license fee.

I also offer my library of fonts on Fontstand, an app that has free trials and inexpensive font rentals.

If circumstances dictate that you try the fonts before making a purchase, I offer testing licenses upon request. Send me an email me and let me know which font you’d like to try. You are also welcome to inquire about fonts that are not yet released, as I occasionally offer beta licenses as well.
